Welcome

The Department of Chemical Engineering at Curtin University of Technology is a fully established academic department, well respected for its undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Research activities in the department have progressed substantially over the past 25 years and continue to grow with participation in three CRCs, namely, the AJ Parker CRC for Hydrometallurgy, Coal in Sustainable Development and CRC CARE (Contamination Assessment and Remediation of the Environment).

The department provides both undergraduate and postgraduate coursework and research (MEng and PhD) degrees in Chemical Engineering, double degree programs with Applied Chemistry, and Extractive Metallurgy as well as industrial short courses in targeted areas. Our vision is to maintain an international reputation as a chemical engineering department with a strong focus on chemical engineering R&D and scholarly activities in related sciences. Due to our geographical location, the Department chooses to focus its efforts in order to advance research in the key areas of value-added resources and energy processing. The specific research areas of our greatest strength are thermal energy and environmental engineering, process systems engineering (including process modelling, simulation and control), minerals and petroleum processing.

Qualified, experienced staff are active in high quality and high impact research through industrial contracts, collaborative projects, research grants and student projects at bachelor and research degree levels. The work is accommodated in laboratories which are well supported by technical staff and workshop facilities. There are 13 academic staff members and 5 postdoctoral fellows in the department. The annual undergraduate enrolment for all programs is about 100, and 20 for the postgraduate coursework program. The total student population is approximately 450 including 65 research postgraduates.
