Our client has just won the contract for BHP Billiton for the Pyrenees development. This covers 3 separate fields Crosby, Ravensworth and Stickle all to be tied back to an FPSO in water depths of 250m.

These contracts, totalling over £100 million, cover the supply of approximately 60 normalised km of flexible risers and flowlines, scheduled for delivery in 4Q2008, and associated installation work for the project. Our client will be responsible for the installation, and pre-commissioning of the entire subsea system including the FPSO turret and mooring system, subsea manifolds, mid-water arches, the flowlines and risers, umbilicals with associated flying leads, and the tie-ins to the pre-installed tree flow bases. A project office is currently being set up in Perth, Australia.
Our client is looking for two Graduates to start ASAP for long term contract. Full training will be provided with this opportunity representing a fantastic starting point in to the lucrative Oil & Gas industry. The position will be based in Perth CBD, with possibility of site visits.

To discuss this opportunity in detail please do not hesitate to phone (08) 93228035 and ask for Nigel or email nb@link-projects.com with your resume.

Post-Doctoral Research Fellow:
Numerical Simulations Curtin University of Technology, Perth CRC CARE

CRC CARE PTY LTD was established under the Federal Government's CRC Program in 2005 to bring together Australia’s foremost expertise in science, industry and government in a partnership for the development, commercialization and extension of advanced technologies and methods for:

 1. assessing contamination risks in land, groundwater and air;
 2. managing and/or remediating contamination;
 3. developing safe options for land use and the reuse of wastes on land;
 4. developing solutions that are acceptable to regulatory agencies and the community; and
 5. capacity building.

Project
Title: Vulnerability of Indoor Air to Airborne Threats Released Inside a Building: Experimental and Mathematical Studies. CRC CARE currently has a 2 year contract position for a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Curtin University of Technology, Perth for its project on numerical dispersion modeling of toxic gases. This project has been jointly funded by the CRC CARE and the National Security Science and Technology (NSST) Unit of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting state-of-art CFD (computational fluid dynamics) and dispersion simulations of toxic gas releases at specific locations. He/she will also actively collaborate with the WA Chemistry Centre who are a partner in this project and will conduct tracer experiments for validation of numerical simulations.

Essential Criteria
The incumbent must be a PhD (preferably accepted but those who are in advanced stage of completion will also be considered) in any of the following areas:

 1. (1) Chemical Engineering
 2. (2) Mechanical Engineering
 3. (3) Civil or Architect Engineering (fluid dynamics background)
 4. (4) Applied Mathematics (fluid dynamics or finite volume/finite difference)
 5. (5) Applied Physics (fluid dynamics only).

Desirable Criteria
The candidates must have advanced level skills in at least one of the following research areas:

 1. (1) Computational fluid dynamics (knowledge of commercial CFD codes, CFX, FLUENT will be a bonus)
 2. (2) Dispersion modeling of pollutants
 3. (3) Numerical simulations of engineering systems (preferably fluid dynamics)

Other Information
Overseas candidates are welcome to apply.

Department of Chemical Engineering

Department of Chemical Engineering at Curtin University of Technology is one of fastest growing departments in Australia with a strong focus on research and development. The department currently has 14 full time academic staff members and over 60 research students. The process systems computations laboratory where this post-doctoral fellow will be placed was founded in 2003 has a state-of-art parallel computing facility with a strong base in process simulations and industrial flow modeling. List of our current and past research partners includes: BP, Chevron, Aker Kvaerner, and Woodside Energy Ltd.

Vacation Students - we're out looking now! Nickel West is a great supporter of students wanting to gain experience in the resources sector, over the past two years we have had in excess of 45 students employed over the summer vacation period. This 2007/2008 break would appear to be no exception with 43+ students requested so far. We are commencing advertising for students who are currently studying: Mining, Engineering Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, Mineral Processing, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Surveying, Chemistry, Nursing, Human Resources, Communications, Geology, Finance. Most of the students get to work with the crews and gain valuable experience on what life is like in our operations. Others will do specific project work on topics which will benefit Nickel West. How do we get them? Usually through the job site on the BHPB website (Nickel West Vacation program 2008) <http://jobs.bhpbilliton.com/jobDetails.asp?sJobIDs=337855&sLanguage=en> and through targeted university campaigns. We also invite previous vacation students back if they are eligible.
